Kerry Coast is a journalist, dramatist and activist from unceded indigenous territories on the North West Pacific Coast, now called British Columbia, Canada. Coast is just returning from New York where she served for the third time as representative for International Human Rights Association of American Minorities at the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, and from Geneva at the Human Rights Council’s 6th Session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Her recently published book, The Colonial Present: The rule of ignorance and the role of law in British Columbia, is about the ongoing process of colonization, criminalization and forced assimilation of Indigenous peoples in BC.
